Frequently Asked Questions

Are you offering in person therapy?

Yes! I am pleased to offer in person sessions in the West Highlands neighborhood of Denver. My in person availability is limited to Monday and Tuesday, and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

My office suite is located in the Nurture Wellcare Marketplace. The address is: 2949 Federal Blvd, Suite 211, Denver, CO 80211

How long does therapy last?

This is a perfect question for the classic therapist answer - it depends!

Ultimately, you are in charge of your care. Therapists cannot ethically predict the duration of treatment. At Veronica Walton Therapy, PLLC., I recognize that every person’s journey is unique. How long and how often you need to engage in therapy can be influenced by several factors, including but not limited to: scheduling, ongoing life challenges, finances, or changes to personal needs related to therapy services.

I work with each client collaboratively to regularly check in on progress, and explore at what point discontinuing therapy makes sense for their goals.

Why are you not accepting insurance?

Great question! I choose to be an out-of-network/private-pay provider for several reasons.

First, insurance companies require individually-based mental health diagnoses to prove “medical necessity” for services to be covered, which usually does not include relational or environmental-based diagnoses. These diagnoses cover many of the presenting problems clients come in with.

Second, insurance companies may deny claims at any point if they believe services are no longer medically necessary, taking away autonomy of care from the client(s). In addition, diagnoses made may be kept by insurers and may impact coverage and care down the road.

Third, from training and research in couples therapy, we know most relational conflict is co-created; an issue with the interaction pattern rather than either partner in specific. While it is important to understand each partners mental health and background to conceptualize the dynamic fully, it is not the whole story. Therefore, diagnosing a single individual to explain the distress of the couple can feel incomplete.

I hope to be transparent about the values driving my business decision-making, and welcome any further questions. Please note: I am able to provide a monthly Superbill for clients to submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Can you tell me about Good Faith Estimates (GFE)?

The No Surprises Act (NSA) went into effect on January 1, 2022 to protect consumers from surprise medical bills. These surprise bills were most commonly occurring when receiving emergency services or when receiving non-emergency services from an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility. Providers are now required to supply consumers with a Good Faith Estimate before services are received.

While legally and ethically therapists have always been required to be transparent about fees, session cost, and changes to the fee structure, the Good Faith Estimate adds an additional step to ensure providers of all services be upfront with the expected cost of treatment. Veronica Walton Therapy, PLLC. provides a GFE to all clients as part of their intake documentation packet, and welcomes any questions or concerns regarding the estimate at any time.
